I’ve been thinking a lot about health lately. Physical health, mental health, emotional health, work health. The more they all work in partnership, the stronger our work will be – at least in theory. Personally, I have a lot of work to do in those areas, but a few things I’ve been trying to do for my health lately are to begin my days with deep breathing exercises (to the extent my hungry toddler permits) and going to sleep earlier. I’ve fallen off yoga a bit but I plan to get back on track, and now that the weather is tolerable, I also hope to reintroduce daily walks. What do you do to take care of your daily health, and have you noticed a positive effect on your business health? Warmest wishes, Holly Leber Simmons, ASJA Weekly Editor

- Identifying sponsorship and grant opportunities for ASJA
- Exploring potential new revenue streams
- Evaluating profitability of existing programs and payment structures
- Reviewing the 2024 budget with staff for board approval
The commitment would be about a 2- to 3-hours/month, including a monthly meeting. You won’t be “selling” or reaching out to potential sponsors, just identifying potential sponsorship opportunities / companies. Seeking 4 or 5 professional members to participate. Platform moderation, speech and the courts
Columbia Journalism Review
In May, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit struck down most of the provisions of a social media law, enacted by the state of Florida in 2021, that would have made it an offense for any social media company to “deplatform” the account of “any political candidate or journalistic enterprise,” punishable by fines of up to $250,000 per day. In a sixty-seven-page decision, the Eleventh Circuit judges ruled that any moderation decisions made by social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, including the banning of specific accounts, are effectively acts of speech protected by the First Amendment.

Reduce social media stress with these 9 tips
Poynter
Every journalist has a social media horror story. Whether it’s a minor misspelling, a break of objectivity or an online beef, the prevalence of social media in journalism today makes very public missteps almost unavoidable. However, what if journalists had better tools to avoid these mistakes — or, at the very least, reduce the worry that we’ll inadvertently make them?

News on digital platforms is trusted less, new study finds
journalism.co.uk
News on digital platforms is perceived as less trustworthy, according to new research by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
