You’ll agree with me — freelancing is exciting because of the freedom that comes with it. You get to not hate Mondays; to decide how to spend your day; spend quality time with friends and family; take a vacation whenever you think fit; and even more relieving, kick away thoughts of keeping a lackluster, low-paying desk job.

When Devra First started out in journalism, the coveted beat was rock ’n roll.
This was the ’90s, after all, before food blogs — or any blogs, really — Yelp, Instagram, or Top Chef.
It was before chefs were the new rock stars.
“Food journalism was barely even a thing then,” says First, food editor for the Boston Globe. “But I always loved food, and at some point I started wanting to write about food.”

First also got lucky: She broke in on the ground floor of what today has become a booming market — food journalism.

But he always assumed working in the United States would be safe — until last month.
The story is a stark reminder that the US government has eviscerated press freedom and privacy rights at the border.

And you know a website is an important step in getting there — even though the prospect of setting up an entire website by yourself is daunting.

Getting hired for a job feels great at first. There’s a honeymoon stage of wanting to desperately impress the employer, but sometimes that relationship slowly morphs into a parasitic one where you are the host being taken advantage of for your time and talent. Clients and employers alike may start to demand far more of your time and talent than was originally agreed upon for the money you’re being paid. You do your due diligence to ask for a pay bump in order to justify the amount of time and work you’re putting in, and it gets shut down.
