AUTM Business Development Course — Medical Devices

This course is the first of a series of AUTM business development courses that provide an in-depth education on a specific industry sector. This course will focus on the medical device industry. Funded by the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation, the course is designed to provide detailed insights into the medical device market and the pre-clinical, clinical, regulatory, business, marketing and legal issues technology transfer professionals encounter when licensing to the medical device industry.

Taught by highly experienced industry professionals, this course will provide you with a better appreciation of product development and how regulatory, legal and business issues affect commercializing technologies in the medical device space.

Virginia Tech, Institute in Danville Forge New Partnership
The Roanoke Times
Officials from Virginia Tech and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research signed a new five-year master research contract at the institute. The new agreement is a revising of one that was developed years ago, said Michael Duncan, director of research and commercialization at the institute. It will be more flexible and less one-sided than past contracts between the two entities, officials said.

Purdue-Based Startup Shines Light on Heart Disease Severity, Location
Purdue University
Officials at a life sciences startup based on a Purdue University innovation say their company could help cardiologists improve the diagnosis of heart disease, which the World Health Organization listed as the leading cause of death in the world in 2012. Ji-Xin Cheng, co-founder and president of Vibronix Inc., said one challenge that physicians face is that the severity and location of a patient's heart disease cannot be precisely tracked with traditional diagnostic tools.

AASCU Grants Resource Center and AUTM to Host Webinar
AASCU Grants Resource Center (GRC), in partnership with AUTM, is pleased to present a webinar, "Developing a Culture of Innovation and Invention in Colleges and Universities." The webinar will be held from 2-3 p.m. EST on Nov. 13 and will examine challenges and strategies involved in creating and incentivizing a culture of innovation and invention among faculty researchers and administrators.
