It looked as though Silicon Valley's elite startup accelerator, Y Combinator, was becoming more selective. It recently announced that the number of companies it had accepted would shrink to fewer than 50, from 84. But looking for signs indicating which applicants would run into trouble led to an unusual admission of bias — the interviewers were more tolerant after lunch. University of New Hampshire Start-up Looks to Commercialize Anti-fatigue Gel

Research from the University of New Hampshire's chemistry department has resulted in an exclusive license agreement for an anti-fatigue topical energy gel between the university and Wakup Inc., a UNH start-up company. According to Wakup, each application of this gel gives a person a "non-caffeinated boost for about an hour." More

Sensor System Aims to Keep Elderly at Home

Researchers believe they can delay or eliminate assisted living or nursing home care for many elderly individuals through use of a home sensor network. The home monitoring system was developed by University of Missouri researchers who see commercialization of the equipment as their next big step. Testing is underway at TigerPlace, an eldercare facility operated by Americare. More

    AUTM Brings Technology Transfer Expertise to Chile

    AUTM is engaged at the national level with Chile in their efforts to establish and strengthen technology transfer offices, industry-university partnerships and the country's capacity for innovation.

    AUTM and CORFO — Corporación de Fomento de la Producción — Chile's economic development agency and its division Innova, began their partnership in 2010. The project began with AUTM-delivered professional development courses in Chile for technology transfer professionals. Its second phase, now underway, includes benchmarking Chile's efforts, strategic planning for technology transfer offices, and tactical approaches to operational planning.
