ABC President's Update on the Coronavirus Situation

Dear ABC Member,

The ABC General Membership meeting and other activities in Chicago are scheduled to take place in association with the ACC.20/WCC meeting which will be held from March 28 – 30 in Chicago. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the health risk for the general American public, relative to the recent coronavirus outbreak, is considered low at this time.

The health, well-being and safety of ABC members, staff and all individuals attending these meetings is of paramount interest and is given the utmost priority. The ABC will observe all recommendations of the CDC and in conjunction with the ACC will continue to closely monitor health and safety updates and recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health organizations.

In conjunction with the statement provided by the ACC, the ABC will follow the lead of the ACC in collaborating with the McCormick Place Convention Center, the city of Chicago and other conference stakeholders to assess risk and develop an onsite readiness and reaction plan. Enhanced availability of hand sanitizer stations, attendee educational materials on ways to minimize risk, and other informational materials will be available. Handwashing and other preventative actions are encouraged to prevent the spread of ordinary viral infections in addition to measures implemented regarding the recent coronavirus outbreak.

The CDC is recommending individuals receive the influenza vaccination and engage in everyday preventive measures to prevent the spread of germs and avoid illness, including frequent hand washing, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your upper sleeve - not your hands.

Additional information on travel, prevention and situational updates is available on the CDC website and the WHO website. All attendees are encouraged to check the CDC's Traveler's Health Notices prior to departure.

The ABC and ACC anticipate a safe and successful meeting in Chicago and again ask that you remain vigilant regarding your personal safety.
