An Update From ABC on COVID-19

Good Afternoon ABC Members, Staff and Colleagues,

After careful deliberation, the ACC leadership has decided to cancel ACC.20/WCC which was to take place from March 28-30, 2020 in Chicago, due to concerns for the safety of attendees and staff – related to the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

The ACC had been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as state and local governments. In the last week, the ACC became aware of the increasing number of travel advisories and restrictions being placed on health care providers, hospitals and institutions in the U.S. and globally and thought it was a prudent decision to cancel ACC.20/WC — a first-time occurrence.

In accordance with this decision, the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) will also cancel its planned in-person activities at ACC.20/WCC.

The Executive Committee is meeting to discuss the ABC leadership transition, which we anticipate will proceed as planned, with the help of virtual meeting platforms. Alternate plans for the ABC Fellows Annual Educational Program and Dr. Jay Brown Best Abstract Competition are being considered as well. Details will follow later this week.

ABC continues to support the health and well-being of its members and community at large, especially in the locations that are currently grappling with a surge of cases.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns. Our prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

ABC Executive Committee
