Ontario, federal governments give $234.6 million in new funding for child care

Ontario’s child-care centres will be receiving about three per cent of a major influx of cash from the federal government meant to help cope with the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, the province’s premier said Friday. Doug Ford said $234.6 million would start flowing to licensed daycare providers, First Nations Child and Family Programs and other child-care operators in the coming weeks. The money comes as part of the Safe Restart Agreement, a $19 billion deal between Ottawa and the provinces and territories, of which Ontario will receive $7 billion.

The City of Penticton wants to hear from locals about their child-care needs in a new survey

City of Burnaby $5.6 million grant will fund 160 new child-care spaces at schools

Burnaby city council is chipping away at an ambitious promise made six years ago with the school board to triple child-care spaces in the city. Last month, Burnaby’s mayor and council agreed unanimously to approve a nearly $5.6 million grant to the school district for new infant-toddler daycare facilities at four district sites: Marlborough, Cascade Heights and Westridge elementary schools and the Marian Learning Resource Centre.
