Molar opposites: Why I'm blinded by actors' pearly whites in this year's top films
The Globe and Mail
"Did they have Crest White Strips in 1985?" My friend asked me that recently as she, her co-vivant and I strolled out of the movie theatre that had been screening Dallas Buyers Club. The film is famous, in part, because its star, Matthew McConaughey, dropped almost 20 kilograms to play Ron Woodroof, a hard-partying, trailer-living, trash-talking, rampantly heterosexual urban cowboy who at movie’s start is diagnosed with AIDS and given only 30 days to live.

Antibacterial agent boosts toothpaste effectiveness
Science Daily
Regular use of fluoride toothpaste containing triclosan, an antibacterial agent, and a copolymer, which helps prevent the triclosan from being washed away by saliva, reduces plaque, gingivitis, and bleeding gums and slightly reduces tooth decay compared to fluoride toothpaste without those ingredients, finds a new review in The Cochrane Library.

Using dental practice software to make management decisions
By Jill Nesbitt
As the office manager for a dental practice with seven dentists, 25 staff, 18 operatories, I was responsible for the business side of the practice. When I was hired, my first assignment was to select the best dental practice management software for our practice — and then to make the most of this software to run a successful dental practice. No matter which software you are using in your office for the basics of scheduling, billing/insurance and treatment planning, you can also use your dental practice management software to make solid management decisions.

What is responsive web design...revisited
Modern Dental Marketing
Today, I'm recycling a blog from August of last year, because many of my clients have opted for rebuiding their 2-year-old websites with responsive design. Responsive sites are prioritized over non-responsive sites by mobile search, and they're also user friendly. More and more people are using tablets and smart phones for searches today, and if you want to compete, you need a responsive website.

Dental implant maintenance
The Endo Blog
During the past three decades replacement of missing teeth with implant supported restorations has become increasingly common. Dental implant placement is a viable option for both complete and partially edentulous cases, and is often the treatment of choice. While implant supported restorations do not share the risk of dental caries that natural teeth are subject to, they are susceptible to peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, just as the natural dentition is subject to gingivitis and periodontitis. It is well established that periodic periodontal maintenance can optimize the long-term prognosis of the natural dentition.
