Yahoo Lifestyle

According to a Japanese study presented in Honolulu during an international congress on chemistry, sushi protects your teeth from cavities. In actual fact, it's the hot green wasabi served with sushi that has the most benefits. This sauce contains molecules known as isothiocyanates which stop bacteria settling inside your mouth.

Video marketing for dentists
Modern Practice
Share

As I work with more and more dentists, I'm finding out many of them are horrified to do video. They just want to get more patients and do what they do best. Unfortunately, to get more patients, you've got to implement a video marketing plan, as YouTube is the second biggest search engine in the world, and the biggest one (Google) owns them.
Online video is becoming more popular by the day! People are willing to watch a short video that is of value to them, or that they find entertaining; but to read a 600 word article might be a different story.

Grand Rapids, MI, became the first city in the U.S. to adjust the fluoride levels in its water supply to lower tooth decay rates in children on Jan. 25, 1945.
According to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fluoridated water now reaches more than 204 million U.S. residents—just under 74 per cent of the population on public water systems. In 1999 the CDC proclaimed community water fluoridation as one of 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.

Canadian group calls for more attention to kids' oral health
Dr. BiCuspid
Share

The Canadian Paediatric Society has issued a detailed position statement that is a plea for stakeholders across the country to make children's oral health a bigger priority.
The authors of the statement decry the fact that public funding for dental care has been decreasing during the last 30 years, and that 50 per cent of families in the lower income brackets do not have dental insurance. They also note that members of the First Nations and immigrant children still are among those with the greatest barriers to adequate dental care.

Why products like Tooth and Gums Tonic, Hydrofloss and SulcaBrush get my love
Natural Gumption

Recently, I had the pleasure of working as a hygienist in two different offices, and although the offices were quite nice, I have to say I was saddened by their choice of products they used both in the office and ones they dispensed to patients. All too often this is the case that I come across when I go into an office as a temp. Offices somewhat blind fully give away products to patients, and patients think that these products that they have been given are the best ones to use. It's marketing genius, really.

The New Year ushers in a flurry of activity to many dental offices. Between holiday sweets, colder weather, New Year's resolutions, and renewed insurance benefits; appointments tend to get booked fast and furiously well into the spring. It is quite common for patients to walk in a little intimidated or confused about how and where to start in getting themselves to beautiful, white, straight, healthy teeth surrounded by pink, healthy gums.
