Fall Hazmat class schedule

Federal regulations require anyone who may come into contact with hazardous materials to receive hazmat training. The minimum level of training is Awareness, which provides general awareness of hazardous material risk and does not qualify one to respond to a hazmat release other than to call for help. At the Operations level, one is qualified to respond to hazmat releases and provide limited cleanup of releases. Classes will be held at CEMA's offices, 10 Alcap Ridge, Cromwell, CT and will run from 9 am - 12:30 pm.

Oct 2, 2019, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm OSHA/DOT Awareness Class
This seminar trains employees on the latest requirements and regulations regarding exposure to hazardous materials. It permits only defensive actions in the case of a small release. This is the minimum level of required training to satisfy OSHA and DOT hazmat requirements. This program is approved for certification and recertifications at the Awareness level for anyone who loads/delivers/transports petroleum product; prepares product for transportation; takes defensive measures in the event of a spill. $75 per person

Oct. 3, 2019 9:00 am - 12:30 pm OSHA/DOT Operations Re-Certification Class
OSHA/DOT regulations state that employees who handle and respond to release of hazardous substances, including fuel oil, gasoline and propane must be certified at the Operations level. Operations allows clean-up of small spills (up to 55 gall), not in an enclosed space requiring respiration measures. The Operations Recertification Program is for people who already have certification at the operations level and need their recertification. Upgrade training from the Awareness to Operations level is offered in the spring. $95 per person
