Investors find talent, size elusive among emerging hedge fund firms

Institutional interest in portfolios of hedge funds managed by minority and women-owned firms is rising, but finding enough talented managers to put large allocations to work is a challenge. Asset owners earmarked $850 million for investment in dedicated minority- and women-owned hedge fund portfolios in 2014, with some searches extending into this year, Pensions & Investments' reporting shows.

As 'spoof' trading persists, regulators clamp down

One June morning in 2012, a college dropout whom securities traders call “the Russian” logged on to his computer and began trading Brent-crude futures on a London exchange from his skyscraper office here. Over six hours, Igor Oystacher’s computer sent roughly 23,000 commands, including thousands of buy and sell orders, according to correspondence from the exchange to his clearing firm reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The Schaumburg-based pharmacy benefits manager lost a quarter of its market value last spring, with its share price sinking to a two-year low, when it was swamped by a surge in volume from a 10-year contract with health insurer Cigna.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel leads in election race

After a difficult four years at the helm of the country's third-biggest city, Mayor Rahm Emanuel appears to be on the path to winning re-election. The latest polls by the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times show Emanuel is within striking distance of the 50 percent plus one vote that he needs in Tuesday's five-candidate primary to avoid a runoff election in April.
