Mortgage investor Annaly Capital Management Inc. said it would buy Hatteras Financial Corp. for about $1.5 billion in a cash and stock deal in a move to expand its adjustable-rate holdings.
Both companies, which are structured as real-estate investment trusts, have about 88.6 percent of their assets in mortgage-backed securities. Annaly's portfolio is primarily fixed-rate securities, while three-quarters of Hatteras Financial's interest-earning portfolio was in adjustable-rate holdings.

BM&FBovespa SA sold its entire stake in CME Group Inc. to fund its attempt to acquire Cetip SA, Brazil's largest clearinghouse.
BM&FBovespa, which runs Brazil's stock and futures markets, sold 13.6 million CME shares on April 7, according to a regulatory filing. The CME shares were worth roughly $1.2 billion. BM&FBovespa didn't say how much money it raised by selling them. Cetip's market capitalization is about $3.1 billion. The shares amounted to a 4 percent stake in Chicago-based CME, the world's biggest exchange operator.

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Charles Evans said the U.K.'s "Brexit" vote and the U.S. presidential elections are fueling uncertainty, complicating decisions for policy makers as well as businesses and investors. Speaking in a Bloomberg Television interview recently in Hong Kong, Evans cited the U.K. referendum on leaving the European Union and the the surge of refugees entering Europe. He added there's also a "large uncertainty" about the U.S. presidential election in November.

Groupon has received a $250 million investment from Comcast-backed Atairos Management.
Atairos is a $4 billion independent fund launched this year by Comcast and headed by former Comcast Chief Financial Officer Michael Angelakis, who will join Chicago-based Groupon's board of directors.
