The project has received funding from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.More

Mercedes to launch hydrogen-powered car by 2017
Left Lane News
Mercedes-Benz has discreetly announced it will launch a small car powered by a hydrogen-electric drivetrain in 2017. Previewed by the B-Class F-Cell, the car will be powered by an all-new drivetrain developed jointly by Mercedes parent Daimler, Renault-Nissan and Ford. A fuel cell mounted below the passenger compartment will harvest the electricity created when hydrogen and oxygen come in contact and send it to an electric motor mounted on the front axle.More

Hydrogen squeezed from stone could be new energy source
BBC News
Scientists from the University of Lyon have discovered a new way to split hydrogen gas from water, using rocks. The method promises a new green energy source, providing copious hydrogen from a simple mixture of rock and water. It speeds up a chemical reaction that takes geological timescales in nature.More

Scientists develop bio-inspired nanocatalysts for fuel cells
Fuel cells represent an important component of the energy transition, as they supply electrical energy without first having to create heat and steam from fossil fuels. Instead, they create the energy directly from a reaction of hydrogen and oxygen to form water. For that reason, they can create energy more efficiently than coal-fired or gas-fired power plants.More

Ballard signs MOU with Van Hool for further zero emission fuel cell bus deployments
The Wall Street Journal
Ballard Power Systems has announced the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Van Hool NV, Europe's fourth largest bus manufacturer, in support of the manufacture and further deployment of zero emission fuel cell buses. By February 2014 the companies plan to jointly respond to the call for proposals under the EU Hydrogen Fuel Cell Joint Undertaking, and also plan to jointly respond to other future calls for proposals under the Horizon 2020 program.
