The damage to the global economy this year will be less than previously expected, but still "unprecedented", a leading international body says.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development now predicts a decline of 4.5% in 2020, versus the 6% drop forecast in June.
It means it no longer expects the UK to have the deepest contraction of the major G20 economies this year.
But the 10.1% drop would still make Britain one of the hardest hit.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending September 12, 2020.
For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 474,785 carloads and intermodal units, down 9.9 percent compared with the same week last year.
Total carloads for the week ending September 12 were 214,142 carloads, down 15.2 percent compared with the same week in 2019, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 260,643 containers and trailers, down 5 percent compared to 2019.

Menzies Aviation has apologised to customers for what one described as "absolute turmoil" in its Heathrow (LHR) facility, and said it was working hard to fix the problems.
Forwarders and truckers told The Loadstar freight had been waiting at the facility for a week, in "an absolute mess."
The congestion happened as Menzies took over Qatar Airways Cargo handling from Dnata, on 2 September with a new long-term contract. Some 60 staff switched to Menzies from Dnata.

Three safety groups and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters are suing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in federal court in an effort to rollback changes made to driver hours-of-service rules scheduled to go into effect on Sept. 29.
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Parents Against Tired Truckers (PATT), Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH), and the Teamsters filed the petition Wednesday with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The petition notes that the FMCSA in August denied the group’s petition for reconsideration.

The slump in China's worldwide trade showed further signs of recovery in the first two weeks of September as activity at major ports grew despite weaker global demand and the pressure of the relocation of supply chains, according to data from the China Ports & Harbours Association.
In the first 10 days of September, combined international and domestic container traffic at Chinese ports rose 9 per cent from the same period a year earlier, with international activity growing by 16.5 per cent.

Canadian grain shipments through the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway trade corridor are up 20 per cent in response to continuing world demand for wheat and canola, the latest figures show.
Year-to-date shipments of grain (from April 1 to August 31) totaled 5.2 million tonnes, as ships transported Prairie wheat and canola and Ontario wheat and soybeans for both domestic use and for export to markets around the world.

An increase in Chinese exports is one of the main drivers leading to a post-pandemic recovery for ports and terminals.
According to Drewry despite a significant downturn in the first and second quarters of 2020 there are "early signs of hope for the third quarter", largely because China has taken the first steps towards recovering. The Chinese port index in June stood 1.2% higher than it did at the same point in 2019.
