2015 Annual Business Meeting Notice

This year's Annual Business Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 11:00 in the Pacific Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

All COA members are asked to attend this meeting to receive and consider the financial statements, the auditor's report, to elect the Association's directors and other committee members, and to discuss other pertinent COA business matters. Open discussion is encouraged. This is your opportunity to bring your suggestions in person to the COA Executive.More

La séance de travail de la Réunion annuelle aura lieu le jeudi 18 juin, à 11 h, dans la salle de bal Pacific du Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Nous demandons à tous les membres de l'ACO d'assister à la séance, qui a pour objet de présenter et d'examiner les états financiers et le rapport du vérificateur, d'élire les membres du conseil et des comités et de discuter d'autres questions d'intérêt liées à l'ACO. On favorise les discussions franches. Ces séances sont une occasion de présenter en personne vos suggestions à la direction de l'ACO.

Centre for Effective Practices announces: Online accredited low back pain course now available until October 2015!

Introducing an online Mainpro-M1 accredited course available to all health-care providers across Canada interested in better understanding the assessment and management of low back pain in primary care settings. This course was originally launched in 2013 and due to popular demand, has been re-accredited and will be available until October 2015.

The goal of the program is to improve patient outcomes, decrease unnecessary resource utilization and increase capacity for comprehensive care.

This course will introduce the CORE Back Tool, which has been designed by engaging primary care providers and specialists in the design process.

There are 4 main vignettes within the course. Providers are welcome to complete as many of the vignettes as they wish:
1. Low Back Pain Status Report
2. Clinical Assessment of Low Back Pain
3. Patient Self Management
4. The Clinical Tool Kit The program has been accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 4 Mainpro-M1 credits and is available until October 2015.

Woman demands reimbursement from Peterborough hospital for wait time

An Ontario woman wants to be reimbursed for waiting nearly 90 minutes for an injection she says would take a minute. Leslie Ellins, a financial planner from Buckhorn, ON, claims four patients were scheduled to see the same doctor at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on April 14. Ellins says she was made to wait while the doctor and his staff took a lunch break, but says the final straw was being asked to pay $25 for a cortisone injection that had previously been offered for free.More

Saskatchewan to allow more private MRI scans for paying customers

More private MRI scans could soon be coming to Saskatchewan. Health Minister Dustin Duncan introduced legislation recently that would pave the way for more people to get private scans, if they have the cash. It proposes that patients could pay a private clinic for a magnetic resonance imaging scan if they choose. Duncan said the changes could be in place to allow for MRI scans at private clinics as soon as next spring.More
