IGOT Surgical Burden Survey

We are passing along information regarding a study that is being conducted by the Institute for Global Orthopaedics & Traumatology (IGOT) at University of California, San Francisco. This research study being done by Dr. Richard Gosselin and will be used to estimate the global burden of surgical conditions/diseases.

The research team has created a survey similar to the one described in the Surgery chapter of Disease Control Priorities 2 text to estimate the global burden of disease, but using the updated disease states/conditions from the 2010 Global Burden of Disease study. You will be given a small number of demographic questions in addition to questions asking you to estimate the percentage of various diseases/conditions that need surgical intervention.

• The questionnaire will take approximately 20-25 minutes to complete and data is stored anonymously.
• Participation in this research study is completely voluntary and the survey link will be open for one month

Health Canada's inability to recall unsafe drugs widely criticized

Health Canada says it is "committed to ensuring the quick recall of unsafe drugs" but cannot reveal how or when this will happen. A recent Toronto Star front page story highlighted a long-standing but little-known flaw in the Food and Drugs Act.
