SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket delivered 10 satellites to low-Earth orbit for Iridium, a global leader in mobile voice and data satellite communications. The 10 satellites are the first of at least 70 satellites that SpaceX will be launching for Iridium’s next generation global satellite constellation, Iridium NEXT.
In partnership with leading Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) from around the world, like NAV CANADA, ENAV, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) and Naviair, as well as Iridium Communications, Aireon is set to revolutionize the global aviation industry.
Aireon is leveraging the Iridium NEXT constellation, scheduled to complete deployment by the end of 2017. Iridium NEXT will host Aireon ADS-B payloads on 66 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, relaying signals from ADS-B equipped commercial aircraft to aviation stakeholders worldwide.
Aireon expects to have an operational, global, space-based air traffic surveillance solution by 2018.

Retired captain Mark Delmage has a lengthy and rich history with the squadron, first joining the program as a 13-year-old back in 1965.

Birds took the blame for bringing down the jetliner that Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger landed on the Hudson River eight years ago this weekend. They have been paying for it with their lives ever since.
An Associated Press analysis of bird-killing programs at the New York City area's three major airports found that nearly 70,000 gulls, starling, geese and other birds have been slaughtered, mostly by shooting and trapping, since the 2009 incident, and it's not clear whether those killings have made the skies safer.

Plane & Pilot
The search for the perfect plane is as old as personal flying itself. The difference between today and 1930, to use a random year as an example, is that instead of being limited to a handful of models, there are choices galore for pilots looking to get into a good pair of wings.
A surge in flying and airplane building throughout most of the 1960s and 1970s is largely to thank for the tremendous supply of good used airplanes, as is the fact that airplanes, unlike many hard goods, can be fixed and updated much the same as houses can.
