Officials say a Hawaiian Airlines jet carrying 130 people was forced recently to avoid a small plane that was taking off without clearance.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it launched an investigation and that the much smaller Cessna was taking off without clearance.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said in an email the incident happened when the Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717 was taking off from Kahului Airport on Maui.

Coast Dog Aviation's new hangar at Pitt Meadows Airport is not quite finished, but it’s full of aircraft waiting for repair, modification and inspection.
Since it was founded by owner Dale Floyd in 2010, the British Columbia company has been growing steadily. Working from a single hangar bay on private aircraft, Floyd has been adding staff, services and customers over the past seven years.

Al Seward began flying airplanes when he was 18 years old, a love affair that has continued his entire life.
Seward flew for five years in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), then graduated to flight instructor and eventually joined the search and rescue team. After RCAF, he became a water bomber pilot fighting forest fires around the world.
"It's the most dangerous flying you can do," Seward said, now retired in his 90s.

Joe Sparling, the president of Air North, seemed as surprised as anybody to find himself celebrating his company's 40th birthday recently.
"It's gone by fairly quickly," he said.
Sparling is not the kind of guy to sit back and reminisce, and reflect on his success — he's still too busy running the business, even piloting his own jets on regular passenger flights between Whitehorse and points north and south.

In April 1912, papers around the country were abuzz with the news that "a full-blooded East Indian" named Mohan Singh was enrolled at the Glenn Curtiss flying school in San Diego. With students from as far away as Poland and Japan, the school was described as "the most cosmopolitan gathering of flyers and pupils ever assembled." The tall and gaunt Singh, smartly dressed in a turban, only added to the reputation.

Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor and 400 guests paid tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen and the vital role they played during World War II with a special "WWII Tuskegee Airman Hangar Talk" by decorated Tuskegee Airman Colonel Charles McGee. The event commemorated African American History Month. Colonel McGee fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and holds a record for one of the highest three-war total of fighter combat missions of any pilot in United States Air Force history.
