According to author Brandon Sousa: On each of my past trips, I've desperately hoped to be upgraded to first class, but thanks to Brampton Flight Centre, I jumped past the luxury seats and into the pilot's seat.
With more than 50 flights around the globe, my Introductory Flight Lesson with Brampton Flight Centre marks my most memorable aviation experience and, coincidentally, my shortest flight at 20 minutes.

According to author Rannie Gillis: It was a sunny and hot afternoon in early July, back in 2008, when I returned to Canadian Forces Base Greenwood in the Annapolis Valley. It was exactly 50 years earlier, in 1958, when I attended the last of my three air cadet camps at what was then called Royal Canadian Air Force Station Greenwood.
Today this station is the largest airbase in Atlantic Canada. It is also home to the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, one of the finest such museums in the nation.

On a ramp at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, a crowd gathered around a small silver airplane. My 82-year-old father, Arnold Ebneter, called it the E-1, and he was confident that he was about to fulfill a 50-year-old dream: flying the E-1 nonstop for 2,328 miles to set a new world distance record. His airplane weighed exactly 1,102 pounds, just a few ounces short of the maximum allowed by the rules for the record, and carried only essentials: 59 gallons of fuel, two energy bars, and a quart of water.

According to author Charles "Speck" Helmbrecht: The morning of Feb. 8, 1956, was a crisp, bright, winter day with several inches of snow on the ground. It was, in fact, the kind of day my friend, Leo Zimmer, and I had been waiting for: calm, clear and perfect for flying. Or so we thought.
I had approximately 130 hours of flying time and had earned my private pilot's license, building time for a commercial pilot's license while my wife was teaching in the Helena school system. My mornings were spent at the Helena School of Aeronautics where I was studying for my Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics license.

A small plane pilot strapped a GoPro to the outside of his aircraft and captured footage while flying over New York of a fireball streaking across the night sky.
Mike Grossman posted a video to YouTube of the fireball streaking across the sky while he was flying his Piper Archer 1,500 feet over the Hudson River.
The fireball, an especially bright meteor, was likely the same one recorded at the same time — about 6:16 p.m. Jan. 30 — by a motorist's dashboard camera in Virginia.

Flying the same aircraft all the time can be boring after a while. It's an affliction most aircraft owners share, though it's not one to generate much sympathy from non-owners.
But after months and years flying the same familiar flivver, one begins to seek out new opportunities, different aircraft and even additional ratings. So it was for me recently.
A close friend had a sweetheart deal with the owner of an early Beechcraft Model 55 Baron. He also happened to be a CFI-ME and was ready, willing and able to check me out in the bird.

The subject of helicopter noise in the Los Angeles Basin is an emotional topic for those on both sides of the issue, but events over the last year threaten to send it on a collision course with reality. First, a little background. For decades, homeowners in two main areas in Los Angeles have been griping about helicopter noise. The first is the area is to the north around Van Nuys Airport where most of the helicopters are based; the other is just south of LAX at the Torrance Airport.
