Airshows: Alive and well in Canada

The 2013 Canadian Airshow season will kick off June 1st at the Waterloo Airshow in Ontario. The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds and CF-18 Demo will highlight the show. Additional performances will include aerobatic pilots Rick Volker, Gord Price and Kent Pietsch.
The Snowbirds Demonstration Team along with the CF-18 Demonstration Team will also perform at many locations across Canada.

Keep those checked bags checked when flying to United States

Pearson International Airport has made it a little easier for passengers catching connecting flights to the United States.
Those arriving on a flight at Pearson's Terminal 1 then connecting to a second flight into the United States no longer need to collect their checked baggage before boarding the second flight. Checked bags will be directed to the connecting flight.

Giant pandas land in Toronto, get airport greeting from PM

Prime Minister Stephen Harper greeted a pair of giant pandas at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, marking the start of their much-anticipated 10-year stay in Canada.
Er Shun, a five-year-old female and Da Mao, a four-year-old male, arrived in Toronto from China aboard a FedEx flight.

Comox airport seeks end to height limits

The Comox Valley Airport Commission wants the Ministry of National Defence to clear the air regarding height restrictions that have caused flight cancellations and diversions at the Comox Valley Airport. CEO Fred Bigelow has submitted a letter to minister Peter MacKay urging his office to resolve this issue involving several trees that exceed the height permitted by Transport Canada located on four properties near the runway, whose owners are objecting to their removal.

Model airplane enthusiasts worry about drone bill

Model airplane enthusiasts from around Oregon — some with their planes in tow— showed up at a legislative hearing to ask that any legislation passed to regulate drones not force them to give up their hobby.
In its original form, Senate Bill 71 could have had this effect, but lawmakers have proposed an amendment that would exclude model airplanes from many of the bill's provisions. Still, hobbyists were worried.

406 MHz ELTs continue to demonstrate deficiencies

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) issued its investigation report on March 20, 2013 into a 2011 accident involving a Cessna 208B Caravan. Despite having one of the newest Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT) on board, long promoted by Transport Canada and the Department of National Defence, the ELT failed to alert the authorities or assist in the location of the wreckage.

Bombardier CSeries will miss Paris Air Show
The Gazette
Bombardier will forgo displaying its CSeries at the Paris Air Show in June in order to finish testing before the jetliner's first flight the same month, Chief Executive Officer Pierre Beaudoin said.
The world's third-largest plane maker reiterated its commitment to that timetable in a presentation to investors recently in New York. The goal is already six months later than Bombardier originally planned, a delay the company attributed to unspecified issues with suppliers.
