The $3000 plane ride that lets you 'fly with the legends'
Ottawa Citizen
Warplane buffs will have a rare — but pricey — opportunity to fly on vintage Second World War-era aircraft this summer, including the iconic Lancaster bomber, one of only two airworthy "Lancs" still in existence. Vintage Wings Canada is providing the flights as a way to raise money for the museum and its partner, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton. Vintage Wings is based at the Gatineau airport and was founded by Ottawa tech millionaire Michael Potter.

Sarah's soaring — From Yarmouth skies to flight test engineer
The Yarmouth County Vanguard
Her father, a pilot, remembers the day Sarah flew with him to Stanley airport in Hants County for a Labour Day fly-in.
"The Air Cadets were marshaling arriving aircraft and once we were parked, the head of the Air Cadets, Doug Betts, asked Sarah how old she was (11) and suggested she join the local Air Cadets," said Neil Rogers.
A year later, Sarah did join the air cadets ... and has never looked back.
She joined the military in June 2004, right after high school, to become an Aerospace Engineering Officer.

45 years of Flightcraft
Castanet
New name, new vision.
Kelowna Flightcraft announced that after 45 years the company was rebranding itself KF Aerospace.
With the name and logo change comes other changes ... exciting changes according to company human relations director Grant Stevens.
Last February the company announced it had lost the cargo contract for both Purolator and Canada Post, contracts it had held for about 38 years.
That contract expired at the end of last month.

Aerovie 1st aviation app for Apple Watch
AINonline
EFB and navigation app AerovieReports appears to be the first to market with an Apple Watch aviation app. The Aerovie Watch app is now available on the App Store as part of the latest version of AerovieReports (2.04). Watch apps are bundled with iPhone apps because the Watch requires an iPhone 5, 5S, 6 or 6 Plus.
"It's designed to be like an external display for your iPhone," explained Aerovie developer Bryan Heitman. "It's not apps loaded onto the Watch, but uses the iPhone for processing." (Some of Apple's own apps do run on the Watch itself.)
1 rule to fly them all
AVweb
According to author Mary Grady: In a first visit to Aero, it's hard to escape this harsh reality — around every corner, there is another beautiful, stunning, interesting aircraft — but it's difficult or next to impossible for an American to buy one. On my first day here, I visited the Risen sport plane, developed by Swiss Excellence Airplanes. For Alberto Porto, the company president, the brand-new aircraft is clearly a labor of love.

Air Methods making big moves in HEMS industry
By Mark Huber
I've always liked company executives who make big moves and have a passion and a vision for their business. Air Methods CEO Aaron Todd is one of those guys. Over the last several months, the nation's largest HEMS provider has made two huge moves that amplify the company's safety mantra. The most recent came at Heli-Expo when it placed a monster order for 200 new Bell 407GXP helicopters over the next 10 years.

The diesel engines will continue to be manufactured at Continental Motors' plant in St. Egidien, Germany, the company said. Meanwhile, Continental has selected its Continental Motors Services division in Fairhope, Alabama, for the final assembly and installation of the engine retrofits. The kits will be stocked at CMS and listed on the company’s website by the second quarter of this year.

Hartzell composite prop comes to Cirrus SR22
FLYING
Cirrus SR22 owners can now upgrade their performance capabilities by replacing their metal propellers with Hartzell's three-blade composite prop. The replacement is made with Hartzell's second-generation Advance Structural Composite construction, consisting of carbon fiber laminates integrated into a co-molded stainless steel shank. A nickel erosion shield protects the outboard half of the leading edge of each blade.
