After extensive discussion and review, an agreement has been reached with the Buttonville Airport land ownership partnership, to continue airport operations here at CYKZ until October 31, 2018, and possibly beyond this date, if circumstances with the airport redevelopment dictate.

Innisfail Province
Innisfail and area children can learn about the world of aviation thanks to a volunteer program with the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA).
The COPA for Kids program provides children between eight and 17 the opportunity to learn about aviation and experience flying first hand. The local chapter, COPA Flight #130 in Innisfail is hosting a rally at the Innisfail Airport on April 29.

A former St. Albert woman is among the 17 finalists to be one of Canada's next two astronauts.
Nathalie Sleno has been selected from a field of more than 3,700 people who applied to the Canadian Space Agency.
The official announcement came when the Hon. Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced the 12 men and five women finalists during a press conference in Toronto.

Two CF-18s were scrambled after North American early-warning air defences spotted two TU-95 Bear bombers approaching Alaskan and Canadian airspace from the west.

In spite of the fact that his pilots are currently grounded, the commander of 12 Wing Shearwater in Nova Scotia remains optimistic about the future of the CH-148 Cyclone as Canada's new maritime helicopter capability. Col. Peter Allan told Skies that both Cyclone manufacturer Sikorsky and BAE, which built the helicopter's flight control system, are "fully engaged" in the ongoing investigation into a March 9 incident that saw a Cyclone experience a "momentary change in the descent rate" during a training mission.

The proliferation of unmarked wind turbines in recent years poses a huge risk to thousands of pilots flying over farms every day, according to a top lobbyist for crop-dusters.
Crashing into wind turbines has killed at least four crop-duster pilots in the U.S. since 2003, including one in Minnesota last August. The spinning blades of the turbines poses several risks for pilots, the problem will likely get worse as wind power continues to expand, fueled by government subsidies.

Lilium Aviation, of Munich, says it has flown a prototype of its all-electric VTOL tilt-engine aircraft that the company says will fly 160 knots in horizontal thrust configuration with a range of 180 miles. A video provided by the company of the first flight shows the aircraft, with what looks like a spacious automotive-style cabin, autonomously taking off vertically, turning tightly and transitioning to aerodynamic flight before landing vertically.
