First Nations youth got a chance to fly high in small planes Saturday just outside Winnipeg as part of the 10th annual RBC "Indigenous youth take flight" event.
Pilots with Manitoba Chapter 63 of the Experimental Aircraft Association volunteered to take a group of Indigenous youth for rides from Lyncrest Airport near the southeast corner of Winnipeg. The event was part of the international Young Eagles program.

A Prince Edward Island pilot with a love of flying and a talent for developing software has combined those skills to create a new, important piece of aircraft equipment.
It's called a Canairy cockpit monitor, created by the P.E.I.-based company Airbly, run by Chris VanHorn.
It was developed for small aircraft, sits on top of the instrument panel in the cockpit, and sends a signal via satellite to a laptop, smart phone or tablet on the ground.

Winnipeg police are reminding drone owners that the sky isn't the only limit when flying unmanned air vehicles, after a drone reportedly flew within 25 metres of a commercial passenger plane at the James Richardson International Airport.
Personnel from Nav Canada working at the airport contacted police after the pilot of the plane observed the drone flying nearby. The plane was flying at an altitude of about 900 metres and was able to land safely without incident.

The 171 Phoenix Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets hosted their 73rd Annual Ceremonial Review recently at the G.T. Anderson Auditorium at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate. The review was a chance to recognize the achievements of the cadets and also featured a change in command for the squadron. The Ceremonial Review itself was conducted by Reviewing Officer Major Randy M. Fisher from Alberta.

In an atmosphere of honour, holding their flags, hundreds of air cadets from across Manitoba walked to City Hall and the Manitoba Legislature to celebrate the organization's 75th anniversary.
The Air Cadet League of Canada began in 1941 to prepare for the Second World War, according to 2nd. Lt. Betty Froese. When the war ended in 1945 a number of squadrons disbanded, but the youth program remained strong across the country.

The pilot was flying on a cross-country flight to check on his son, who was participating in a mountaineering class in Talkeetna, Alaska.
He had exhausted the fuel in the left fuel tank and was operating the Aeronca 15-AC on the right fuel tank. He reported that he thought the airplane had about 12 gallons of fuel remaining.
