NAV CANADA proposes to eliminate exemption, leaving overall rate levels unchanged
NAV CANADA
NAV CANADA announced proposed revisions to its customer service charges. The company is proposing the elimination of an exemption for certain flights from its en route charge. Currently, flights operating between an airport with staffed NAV CANADA or DND facilities and an aerodrome that is neither staffed nor certified do not pay en route charges.

New safety training ordered for ORNGE helicopter pilots

ORNGE is barring its air ambulance helicopter pilots from flying in bad weather or clouds until they can show they have special training to avoid inadvertently flying into the ground. The move comes after an ORNGE Sikorsky helicopter crashed during a night flight in Moosonee, Ontario, killing the two pilots and two flight paramedics on board.

Flight 7, Sarnia Skyview Aircraft Association, which is the local chapter of the national Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, is several decades old with a low flight number, signifying that it's among the earliest to be established.

British Columbia's Viking Air inks $70 million Twin Otter deal

Using one of the largest air shows in the world as its backdrop, Victoria, British Columbia's, Viking Air announced it has sold an additional seven Twin Otter aircraft to the Moscow-based Vityaz Avia Corporation as part of a deal that is expected to be worth at least $70 million. The additional seven aircraft bring the total purchased by Vityaz to 11. The base price of a Twin Otter is about $6.5 million.

Late aviator's 'brilliant' career recalled

His name was Neville "Ned" Henderson and once upon a time he was that close to becoming Canada's first astronaut. Not bad for a kid from Brookfield, Nova Scotia, one of Don and Marge's seven children. But Henderson's career could hardly be defined by a "what if." There were too many accomplishments on his resume that made him a role model to many in both the armed forces and civilian life.

Former soldier from Ontario joins search and rescue trade

Following almost a year of some of the most intensive training in the Canadian Armed Forces, Master Corporal Brent Nolasco, of Peterborough, Ontario, has received his Search and Rescue Technician Wings and distinctive orange beret. Nolasco joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Reservist in 1997 and later joined the regular force as a military engineer in 1999.

The Northwest Territories' health department is investigating why it took five hours for a medevac to arrive in Trout Lake after a boating crash. Air Tindi has King Air outfitted as medevacs to respond to emergencies, but Trout Lake is one of three communities that doesn't have a runway long enough for that type of plane to land.

Operation Migration aircraft adjusts to FAA regulations

To continue its mission guiding whooping cranes from Wisconsin to Florida, the Canada-based Operation Migration is working to replace its three ultralight aircraft by next spring in order to comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Following an investigation, the FAA discovered that the conservation nonprofit had been compensating their pilots for their migration trips, in violation of federal regulations for ultralights.
Local air cadet squadron hosts annual ceremonial review

Local Air Cadet Squadron 88 Airdrie Lynx celebrated its Annual Ceremonial Review parade at the Genesis Place in Airdrie, Alberta. The reviewing officer for the ceremony was Major George Roesler-Yue, squadron operations officer for 409 squadron, Cold Lake. Special guests included Mayor Peter Brown and legion representative Gord Fish.
