A trip back through Canada's aviation history
The Canadian Press via The StarPhoenix
Only a few generations ago, northern Canada was largely unknown and unmapped. As the era of flight dawned, a few brave pilots took to the skies with little more than a wing and a prayer, hauling goods and people to remote, frozen communities with almost no protection from the elements.

The Flying Circus: Unlikely prospects
By Garth Wallace
A new feature begins with this issue as COPA eFlight presents the first of weekly chapters from "The Flying Circus," a fictional account of the madcap escapades of two instructors who start their own flying school armed with loads of enthusiasm, but little business sense and no money. We begin with the first chapter, "Unlikely prospects." Enjoy.

Fly Away Free Stay winner
By Phil Englishman
He came back several times, landed, purchased fuel after hours and went on his way. But on a sunny November Sunday he returned when the operations at the Saugeen Municipal Airport, CYHS Hanover, were in full swing. Ghazan Haider, who pilots a Grumman AA1 out of the Burlington Airpark, flew in to the SMA to collect his prizes for flying to Hanover, Ontario in July.

Eielson's biplane takes flight once more
Alaska Public Media
If you visited Fairbanks International Airport in Fairbanks, Alaska, you may have noticed a small construction project near one of the baggage carousels. A local group has been working for six years to restore a biplane that once belonged to legendary aviator Carl Ben Eielson. The plane has a new set of wings, a fresh coat of paint and it's now hanging once more from the ceiling of the Airport terminal.

Historic African biplane flight commences
defenseWeb
The weather may not have played along, but female pilot Tracey Curtis-Taylor has finally commenced her solo Cape Town-to-U.K. flight in a vintage Boeing Stearman biplane.
Curtis-Taylor is recreating the 1928 flight by English aviatrix Lady Mary Heath by covering more than 7,000 miles in an open cockpit Stearman over seven weeks. Heath was the first person to fly this rout, which later became the Imperial Airways route.

Flight of the Tiger Moth
The Batavia Daily News
Marilyn Cleveland knew the pilots who were flying a newly-restored de Havilland Tiger Moth to the National Warplane Museum.
Cleveland was looking forward to their arrival — and acknowledged she worried when they were late arriving — in a plane she last saw on a flatbed trailer on its way to a two-year restoration. But she didn't know the surprise they had in store for her, a long-time and beloved volunteer for the museum.
