Craving and Relapse Prevention Based on the Gorski Model, Part III of VI
Counselor Magazine
In part three of this six-part series, we will continue our discussion of setup behaviors that lead to the craving cycle. Remember that, despite its danger, many alcohol and drug treatment centers focus merely on teaching the tools of recovery to utilize once craving hits, rather than on how to avoid falling into the craving cycle in the first place. Over the next several articles, we will do just that: learn how to help our patients minimize the frequency of entering the craving cycle. We will accomplish this by focusing on setup behaviors and trigger events, two primary criteria that contribute to the craving cycle. By utilizing this information, patients can significantly reduce its frequency.

Certified Professionals
IC&RC
IC&RC can facilitate reciprocity of an IC&RC recognized credential from one IC&RC Member Board to another. Reciprocity can greatly ease the transition of a credential from one IC&RC Member Board to another, however, varying licensure laws, rules and regulations and scopes of practice from one jurisdiction to another can complicate reciprocity.

NARR Advocacy Alert: Excellence in Recovery Housing Act
NARR
Recently, U.S. Representative Trone (MD), Representative Chu (CA), Representative Levin (CA), and Representative McKinley (WV) introduced the Excellence in Recovery Housing Act in Congress. This legislation would require the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), along with national accrediting entities and reputable providers of recovery housing services, to develop guidelines for states to promote the availability of high-quality recovery housing. It would also: • Provide grants to states to implement these guidelines and promote high-quality housing,
• Require the National Academy of Sciences to study the issue and make recommendations for increasing availability, improving data collection, and improving inclusivity for individuals who take medication-assisted treatment, and
• Create an interagency working group, chaired by SAMHSA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to increase collaboration among federal agencies in promoting the availability of high-quality recovery housing.
We have put together a sample letter of support, linked below as well as a sample post to share on social media. You may use this sample letter to send to your representative in support of the Excellence in Recovery Housing Act.
