Procedures/Protocol for Major Emergencies/Fatalities
We recently had a major drowning emergency that luckily went exactly as we train for and lifeguards responded appropriately/timely enough to prevent a boy from losing his life and/or suffering any major injuries. Procedurally, follow-up was positive and not as in-depth as we would assume the contrary to be; however it is making me wonder about procedures or timeline of events if the victim had not survived. What are the procedures/timeline of events for your facility when a fatality occurs?! Please respond here.

Congratulation to CPRS Past President Kevin Miller
The City of Foster City has selected Kevin Miller as the new City Manager effective July 1, 2015. Miller has been with the City of Foster City for 29 years. He has served in many leadership positions with CPRS including President in 2002-03.
Rob de Geus Named Palo Alto Director of Community Services
Palo Alto city manager James Keene announced this week that he has selected Rob de Geus to serve as the city's next Director of Community Services, and will bring his appointment to the city council 2 for confirmation. He is a senior manager within Palo Alto's Community Services Department and is currently serving as the Acting Director.

We Say Goodbye to a Wonderful Friend
Our dear friend and professional colleague Kathie Luecker passed away Jan. 27 after a courageous fight with cancer. For those of us lucky to know Kathie, she was the kindest of people with a heart of gold! To honor her please consider donating to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance at www.ovariancancerosw.org. Baldwin Park looking to disband nonprofit that runs community programs

The nonprofit organization behind the annual Santa Clothes program could be dissolved in the next few months, Baldwin Park officials said. The Baldwin Park Community Center Corporation provides various services and activities for the city's residents, such as the annual Santa Clothes program and holiday basket giveaway. But the BPCCC has been operating without a board of directors for several years, even though its bylaws require a board to perform oversight and policy functions, according to a report by the city's auditors.

City considers $19 million indoor complex for vacant lot

A vacant city-owned lot on Oxnard's main road, one long slated to become a sports park, has caught the eye of a developer who wants to build an indoor sports center for regional events. The firm, Young & Co. Inc., of Avila Beach, hopes for a $1 per year 99-year lease of the 21-acre property at Oxnard Boulevard and Gonzales Road.
San Rafael Park closed to root out homeless

Officials and residents of San Rafael say homeless encampments at the city's Boyd Memorial Park have gotten out of control. And Mayor Gary Phillips took a bold step aimed at solving the problem. The park is officially closed.
