Armed Services chief: Obama on 'campaign mission' with budget
The Hill
Proposals to increase out-of-pocket fees and alter benefits for U.S. troops in fiscal year 2016 show President Obama is in "campaign mode" when it comes to Pentagon spending, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said Feb. 3. "I’m afraid we have a president who’s on a campaign mission," Thornberry said during roundtable with reporters. He chided the administration’s $4 trillion budget for pushing increased spending and taxes, saying "it makes me wonder how serious he is about solving" the challenge of sequestration.

Obama's defense secretary nominee faces Congress
President Barack Obama's pick to become the next Defense secretary said Feb. 4 that he's likely to support a push to provide arms to Ukraine's military. Ashton Carter told the Senate Armed Services Committee during his confirmation hearing that he's "very much inclined" to support giving "lethal" arms — which could include anti-tank and anti-air systems — to Ukraine to combat pro-Russian rebels.
