EANGUS "We Care for America" Foundation: Program suspended until further notice
The National Guard Soldier and Airmen Relief Fund was created many years ago through a generous grant from a corporate partner. Over time, this fund has supported National Guard members faster than we have replenished the funds. As a result, we have had to temporarily suspend the program and focus on rebuilding the reserves.

Obama discusses anti-ISIL strategy with national security team at Pentagon
Department of Defense
President Barack Obama discussed the strategy to degrade and ultimately destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant with civilian and military leaders of his national security team at the Pentagon July 6. The president spoke to the press following the meeting. He stressed that the strategy will take time to work, and that there is no substitute to working through indigenous forces in the region.
Army plans to cut 40,000 troops
USA Today via Army Times
The Army plans to cut 40,000 soldiers from its ranks over the next two years, a reduction that will affect virtually all its domestic and foreign posts, the service asserts in a document obtained by USA Today.
The potential troop cut comes as the Obama administration is pondering its next moves against the Islamic State militant group in Iraq and Syria.
Senators: Iraq strategy is 'delusional'
Air Force Times

The 'new' type of war that finally has the Pentagon's attention
The Washington Post
The Pentagon is increasingly concerned about how to combat “hybrid warfare,” the combination of stealth invasion, local proxy forces and international propaganda that Russia used to annex Crimea and destabilize eastern Ukraine, U.S. officials said.
Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on July 2 released the 2015 National Military Strategy, in which he cited Russia’s actions in Ukraine and said "hybrid conflicts" will persist well into the future.
4 sticking points to a GOP defense deal
House and Senate defense committee leaders are set to face off in closed door talks in the coming days over a Pentagon policy bill that could have broad implications for the country.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), the two Armed Services Committee chairmen, will lead the sides in hashing out major differences between their bills in hopes of getting a final measure to the president's desk by mid-July.
Top DoD adviser will be acting Army undersecretary
Eric Fanning, one of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's closest advisers, has been tapped to serve as acting undersecretary of the Army, the Defense Department announced.
Fanning, who is Carter's chief of staff, will fill a role in the Army's leadership ranks that has been open since Brad Carson became the acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. Fanning's appointment also comes as Army Secretary John McHugh prepares to leave his post this fall.
Leader of Army's future panel discusses Texas trip
Killeen Daily Herald
When it comes to deciding how the three components of the Army — active, Reserve and National Guard — will be organized in the future, one thing is clear: It’s a complex issue.
"One of the things that struck all of us initially was just the complexity of the task that has been outlined for us," said Carter Ham, chairman of the National Commission on the Future of the Army.
Graham's uniform front and center in campaign ads
Sen. Lindsey Graham is using photos of himself in uniform to win votes in his presidential campaign, something he's free to do as long as he includes a disclaimer saying the photos don't mean the Pentagon endorses his candidacy. Military regulations bar members of the armed forces, including retired members and reservists, from wearing their uniforms "during or in connection with furthering political activities … when an inference of official sponsorship for the activity or interest may be drawn."

Vets snared in for-profit college collapse want GI Bill money back
The collapse of for-profit Corinthian Colleges has been a calamity for Afghanistan and Iraq veterans who not only lost their chance at a college degree from the shuttered schools but also can’t get back tens of thousands in tuition covered by the GI Bill.
Now there’s a movement in Congress to bail out the veterans and give them a second chance at a degree.
