"It is with great pride and honor that the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS), a military service organization representing over 414,000 men and women of the Air and Army National Guard, their families, retirees, and survivors, adds its voice of overwhelming support for the documentary "Citizen Soldier."
'Citizen Soldier' is a very dramatic story told first hand by a group of Soldiers who served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s Thunderbird Brigade during their deployment to Afghanistan in 2011. During the story, the viewer is easily morphed into one of the squad members as they experience the shock and awe of war, experiencing almost the same heart-pounding emotions as the Soldiers."
Sgt. Maj. Frank Yoakum, U.S. Army (Retired)
Executive Director, EANGUS
The documentary will be screened during the conference. Time/Place TBA. Executive Producer Wendy Anderson will be in attendance at the banquet.
Stars and Stripes
Two no-cost initiatives to honor the service of Reserve and National Guard members are edging forward in Congress, though final passage this year is still far from certain.
The more familiar of the two bills would bestow honorary “veteran” status on up to 200,000 Reserve and National Guard retirees who can’t now be called military veterans as defined under federal law.
After serving as an undercover officer in the CIA for almost a decade, Rep. Will Hurd joined a cybersecurity firm as a senior advisor. He now serves as the congressman for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas and is the Chairman of the IT Subcommittee on the Committee for Government Oversight and Reform.
The new chief of the National Guard Bureau said he plans to focus on its role as an operational force.
"The development of our most important assets, our people, will be our foremost task," said Air Force Lt. Gen. Joseph Lengyel, who was installed last week as the 28th chief of the National Guard Bureau and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at a Pentagon ceremony.
At the highest levels of power in Washington, when top national security officials meet behind closed doors, there is often only one enlisted service member in the room: Army Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell.
As the senior enlisted adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Troxell is the military’s highest ranking noncommissioned officer. It’s a unique post that was created just a few years ago and is only vaguely defined by law and tradition.
Two companies have joined UnitedHealthcare in protesting military contract awards worth up to $58 billion to manage the Tricare health program, including one of the winning bidders, Government Accountability Office officials said Monday.
Health Net Federal Services, which now manages the Tricare North Region and was awarded the contract to manage Tricare’s West region, filed a protest late Friday over the Defense Department’s decision to give the East region contract to Humana Government Business.
Task & Purpose
After 15 years of war, there are big questions over how well the men and women who serve the country are faring after military service. The Center for a New American Security is launching a survey of veterans, HR professionals, and supervisors to figure out what’s affecting veterans’ performance in the workplace. By taking a better look at the challenges that exist for vets, we hope to find better ways to help them as they leave the military.
For the first time in 14 years, the military is rewriting its body composition standards and the methods used to determine whether troops are too fat to serve.
Pentagon officials intend to publish a new policy later this year, a document expected to have sweeping effects on how the military defines and measures health and fitness. The review comes amid rising concern about obesity. Among civilians, it is shrinking the pool of qualified prospective recruits. And in the active-duty force, a rising number of overweight troops poses risks to readiness and health care costs.
Donald Trump and friends have fired back at a group of GOP national security officials who signed a letter saying he would be "a dangerous President" and "unqualified" for the Oval Office.
The letter, made public Monday, was signed by 50 former senior officials and said the Republican presidential nominee "lacks the character, values, and experience to be President." Among the signatories are former CIA and National Security Agency director Michael Hayden, former Director of National Intelligence and Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte, and former secretaries of homeland security, Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff.

Rep. Brad Klippert, R-Kennewick, is to take command of the 80-member Washington State Guard following a promotion ceremony Aug. 13 at Camp Murray near Tacoma.
Klippert is to be promoted to full colonel immediately prior to the change-of-command ceremony. He succeeds Col. Terry Larue.
"Brad brings to the position nearly 30 years of military service, and he knows our organization well — both as a traditional soldier and a member of the state Legislature," Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty, adjutant general for the Washington Military Department, said in a release announcing the change of command.

Here is what one happy EANGUS member says about his recent CLEP success:
I highly recommend SpeedyPrep! I studied on and off for a couple of weeks for Humanities before testing. Without this product I would not have been able to pass the test. Well worth the cost!!!!!
–Joey, EANGUS member
EANGUS’s partnership with SpeedyPrep.com paid off well for Joey to pass college Humanities. A couple of weeks is faster than a full semester of class and the EANGUS special subscription rate is far, far less than the average tuition for this course.
Join other EANGUS members who are earning college credit and points toward their promotions and commissions without sitting through a semester of classes, and without paying high tuition fees! SpeedyPrep.com lets you study for CLEP exams on your own time, in your own space, and on your chosen device. We will even tell you when you are ready to pass your CLEP and earn that college credit.

An ARNG E5 (MP) who serves as a VA Police Officer at a VA hospital had accumulated more than 140 semester hours of credit from the military and courses he had taken in college, although he had not taken courses in the past four years. The VA counselor anticipated that he would need the typical 30 semester hours of academic residency to complete a baccalaureate degree. Naturally, he was quite surprised when we presented him with several degree plans from three different colleges that had him at 100+ semester hours – the one that he chose has him at 117 (all he needs is the capstone course to graduate), then we (HERC) can transition him into an MBA program.
