FERC, Perry struggle to define and address grid resiliency
There were efforts by DOE Secretary Rick Perry to prevent the closure of a tranche of older-generation coal and nuclear power plants. His hope at the time was to convince the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to write new regulations that would allow fuller cost recovery from ratepayers by power generation facilities that retain a 90-day supply of fuel on-site.
Utilities, grid operators tell FERC they need real-time data to better manage DERs
Green Tech Media
Utilities and grid operators stressed the need for real-time information on distributed energy resources to a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission panel in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. FERC organized the conference to gather information on the challenges of integrating DERs into the wholesale power market, which makes up about three-quarters of the country’s electricity supply.
Are state agencies best equipped to manage energy industry needs, protect groundwater?
The growth of American energy production in the last decade has been a remarkable success of technology and innovation. Already its impacts on the economy and national and international politics are clear. If production continues to grow, America is on track to being one of the world’s largest producers. To achieve that goal, however, will require effective regulation as much as new technology.

How can utilities remake the power sector into a space that attracts and nurtures women? Utility Dive explores the current landscape and how it will impact the future in a series of conversations with women in a diverse set of roles in the power sector.

Put a Price on It! Pricing Carbon in Energy Markets
Join us for a session to explore how carbon could be priced directly into RTO/ISO wholesale energy markets to enhance state/national environmental policies on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. After a brief introduction of how various factors are priced into energy markets, including existing state initiatives such as RGGI, representatives of Regional Transmission Organizations and others with federal energy market expertise will share ideas on the legal and practical questions raised by including carbon directly in wholesale energy market pricing. Key issues include statutory interpretation, RTO/ISO regional differences, leakage mechanisms (i.e., accounting for seams issues), interaction with other state and regional policies, pricing effects and how to measure consumer impact.
