Battery energy storage on verge of competing with natural gas, but questions remain
S&P Global Platts
The degree to which energy storage can compete economically with natural gas peaking plants is still being determined, but better price signals are needed to incentivize the most cost-effective reliability solutions regardless of technology, experts and analysts said.
New law shines light, LED of course, on energy efficiency
Gov. Phil Scott embraced energy efficiency, signing into law an energy-efficiency bill that over time could save Vermonters hundreds of millions of dollars.
The new statute, which originated as H.410, sets 16 separate efficiency standards for products ranging from computer monitors to commercial deep fryers and fluorescent bulbs.
In renewed push, federal power regulators may act on PURPA
As the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission prepares to revive a review of the implementation of the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act, energy industry experts say that FERC might make some regulatory updates this time around, which could end up making it harder for renewable facilities to sell power to utilities under the law.

The bill was one of several legislative initiatives signed by Murphy yesterday to advance the state's clean energy economy.

Join FELJ for an author talk with Natalie Nowiski, June 20
With the growing awareness of the financial consequences caused by the physical impacts of climate change and the need to account for future risks and opportunities of transitioning to a low-carbon economy, institutional investors and stakeholders increasingly are calling on publicly traded companies to provide enhanced climate risk disclosure in their financial reporting. In her article Rising Above the Storm: Climate Risk Disclosure and Its Current and Future Relevance to the Energy Sector for the new edition of the Energy Law Journal, Natalie Nowiski explains that notwithstanding the financial and environmental deregulation policies under the current Administration, U.S. energy companies should expect to face continued and increased pressures to provide enhanced climate risk disclosure in their financial reporting.

CFEBA Grant will help secure the safety of thousands of patients in Puerto Rico
The Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar Association (CFEBA) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors approved a $100,000 grant to The Puerto Rico Primary Care Association, Inc. (PRPCA). PRPCA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, organized in 1984, that supports the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program award recipients in Puerto Rico. PRPCA will use the funds to install integrated hybrid solar power systems that would power the refrigeration units at the primary care clinic delivery sites in its portfolio located throughout Puerto Rico. This project will address refrigeration needs for perishable medication such as insulin, vaccines, and certain liquid antibiotics and cancer medications.
We are excited by the huge impact this grant will have on the resilience and disaster preparedness plan for the island and thousands of Puerto Rico’s most vulnerable citizens.
Thanks to the support of EBA members, we are able to once again provide funding to improve lives worldwide with affordable and environmentally sustainable energy.
