Procrastination has a bad reputation. It's very familiar to all of us. More often than not, it leads to nothing but anxiety, disappointment and shame.
Almost everyone thinks it's entirely negative, but there are times when procrastination can work in your favor. You don't have to be anxious, disappointed and stressed all the time when you put things off, especially when you are a creative professional or need time to think through your work and generate better ideas.

One publisher's gain doesn't have to be another publisher's loss.
With politics — and specifically President Donald Trump — commanding so much attention, it is reasonable to expect that publishers who don't focus on hard news would see a drop in traffic. But data indicates that non-hard news publishers haven't suffered from the public's intensified interest in political news. Sources told Digiday that soft news has maintained user attention as the line between entertainment and politics continues to blur.

Pitching is hard.
Every one of us has gotten excited about an idea, prepped it, pitched it ... and been shot down. It's disappointing and, sometimes, demoralizing. Of course, no journalist has a 100 percent pitch acceptance rate. But there are ways you can approach pitching that will increase the likelihood of getting a "yes." For this post, we cast a wide net in the NPR newsroom, asking editors what they look for (and what annoys them) in a pitch.

There isn't a single best time to share to social media.
There's a long tradition of studies that have attempted to uncover a "best time" to post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and almost every other social media marketing channel, with each study finding a wide range of results (we've even created our own studies here at Buffer).
Here are just some recommendations on the best time to post to Facebook to get you started.

Media organizations, repeat after me: Facebook is not made for you. It may adapt somewhat to your presence, but ultimately it's made for the 1 billion-plus people who are having a conversation on it. If you're lucky, your story might sometimes be the topic of that conversation; if you're smart, you'll be engaged in the discussion, too. Here are five recommendations to help make that happen.

Good enough and convenient. That's proved a winning strategy for Instagram's clone, according to a dozen analytics providers, social media celebrities, and talent managers who told TechCrunch they've seen a decline in Snapchat Stories usage since Instagram Stories launched on Aug. 2.
Most reported declines in Snapchat Stories view counts ranging from 15 to 40 percent, and a reduction in how often they or those they monitor post to Snapchat Stories.

You know how mobile + social is supposed to = short attention span?
No more, says Facebook: It says it is going to start rewarding video makers who create longer clips.
This is a shift — yet another shift — from Facebook, which kick-started its move into video by crediting video publishers with a "view" if someone watched something for a minimum of three seconds.

I've hired someone with a horticulture degree only one time in 20 years.
Unfortunately for the plants, two months later he moved to Colorado for the opportunity to use his cannabis education. And unfortunately for some of my clients, their eye candy left the state. Although I had many more years of experience, even in that amount of short time, this kid showed me a couple of horticulture short cuts.

It's becoming increasingly simple to buy everything online, and although live plants have been a partial exception to this rule, that may be changing.
Online plant sales form a rapidly developing segment of the market, with retail giants like Amazon looking to deliver in-demand plant varieties to customers across the country.

Boxwood blight continues to spread throughout the U.S. The University of Illinois Plant Clinic recently announced its presence in Illinois. The clinic received two boxwood samples late 2016. Both were from northeast Illinois and were collected from recent landscape installations. USDA APHIS confirmed that both tested positive for BB. Univeristy of Illinois Extension personnel are confident that the infected plants did not likely originate from an Illinois nursery.

Peggy really wanted to grow food but she wasn't sure if she had the time or the place. We were meeting over Skype for a coaching session, and I was trying to inspire her to just get growing.
"Grow a sprout overnight, a micro-green in a week or a radish in a month," I said with a grin. "It's so simple!" Peggy was ready to give greens a try in her small apartment because she wanted home-grown edibles ASAP.
