Millennials are the industry's top new consumers. Brands must work to reel them in now if they want to stay relevant in the future.
Millennials are a bigger generation than Baby Boomers, comprising an estimated 25 percent of the U.S. population. And, with a collective buying power of $200 billion annually, they already have an indirect spending power of $500 billion. Their buying power will only grow as they grow older, buy houses, settle down and make more money.

Micronutrients, by definition, are required by plants in small quantities, but they're crucial nonetheless. Justus von Leibig's Law of the Minimum can be summarized this way: "The availability of the most abundant nutrient in the soil is only as good as the availability of the least abundant nutrient in the soil."
A practical application of that law would be to say that a plant that's chlorotic and making subpar growth due to a micronutrient deficiency won't be improved by applying more nitrogen.

The most useful definition of technology I've heard is simply, "the ability to do more with less."
I think of books and reading as technologies.
We only live one life, but through books, we can gain the wisdom from thousands. When an author writes, re-writes, and edits, they are turning their words into a more perfect version of themselves. When you read, you get to spend time in a meditative state with a wise person's more perfect self.

A while ago, I wrote about what might be involved in a do-it-yourself Master of Fine Arts. Basically: lots of reading, lots of writing, some mentoring and connection with other writers.
The best advice I've ever seen for how to become a solid writer comes from Ray Bradbury. His advice is a prescription for nightly reading, weekly writing and watching a lot of movies.

You probably know someone who makes sniping remarks like: Old media is dying! They were too stupid to notice the internet! They're snobs and stuck in the past!
The real story is much more complicated, journalist Gabriel Snyder said on the latest episode of Recode Media with Peter Kafka. In the latest issue of Wired, Snyder wrote about how one of the highest-profile media companies in the world, the New York Times, is "claw(ing) its way into the future."

The news on Twitter seems unrelentingly bad lately, with its stock down on last week's earnings report showing that Twitter only added 2 million users last quarter with quarterly revenues dropping slightly from the previous year. Here's one bright spot: News publishers say Twitter is growing as a source for video distribution and revenue.
Across three Twitter accounts for Business Insider and two sister publications, Business Insider attracted more than 6 million video views on Twitter in January.

When Instagram (and by extension Facebook) announced the rollout of Instagram Stories during summer 2016, the company wasn't shy about acknowledging that its newest product was all but a carbon copy of Snapchat. In design. In functionality. And, most blatantly, in its name: Instagram didn't even bother finding a synonym for the made-famous-by-Snapchat term "Stories."
