Exhibitors sales open for Annual Symposium

The purpose of the exhibit is to provide a forum to exchange information between lawn and garden product manufacturers and North America's premier garden communicators. The exhibition, which will take place Aug. 16-17, is held in conjunction with the 65th GWA Annual Symposium to be held Aug. 16-19 at The Hilton Quebec. Please note that the symposium continues two days after the last exhibition date, and exhibitors are welcome to participate.

Walmart sales near half a trillion dollars, but Amazon's still winning

Half a trillion dollars. That barely comprehensible number has entered the sights of the world's largest retailer. Walmart recently reported net sales of more than $466 billion for its fiscal year 2013, which ended Jan. 31. At its current growth rate of 5 percent, the company still won't reach a half-trillion next year.

US booksellers, meeting in KC, express optimism

Sales at member stores of the American Booksellers Association were up 8 percent last year, said Dan Cullen, the trade group's content officer. "Contrary to the narrative that is often expressed," added Oren Teicher, the association's chief executive officer, "we are doing well. ... "Expressing negative sentiments in tweets is the second most harmful factor to growing a Twitter audience," say researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
