Microsoft Sacks Journalists to Replace Them with Robots

Dozens of journalists have been sacked after Microsoft decided to replace them with artificial intelligence software. Staff who maintain the news homepages on Microsoft’s MSN website and its Edge browser have been told that they will be no longer be required because robots can now do their jobs. Around 27 individuals employed by PA Media were told that they would lose their jobs in a month’s time after Microsoft decided to stop employing humans to select, edit and curate news articles on its homepages.

    Global Advertising to Sink 8.1% — a $50 Billion Drop — in 2020

    All Facebook Users Can Now Access a Tool to Port Data to Google Photos

    Facebook’s photo transfer tool is now available globally half a year on from an initial rollout in Europe, the company said. The data portability feature enables users of the social network to directly port a copy of their photos to Google’s eponymous photo storage service via encrypted transfer, rather than needing to download and manually upload photos themselves — thereby reducing the hassle involved with switching to a rival service.
