Register for the Virtual Conference Today!
Need a few more reasons to attend? We have them.

#5 Comfort –Skip the freezing hotel conference rooms! Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in, and sit in your cushiest chair as you access the entire event from the comfort and safety of your own home - or any place with an internet connection.

#4 Cost – Has the cost of travel, hotel accommodations, and food…all of which can add up quickly, restricted you from attending past GardenComm annual conferences? This year you’ll save on all those additional expenses and get the full benefits of the GardenComm educational and informational sessions for one, low conference fee. Just one good idea alone can pay for your registration!

#3 - Reconnect with old friends—and make new ones. You may not be in the same room, but you’ll be sharing the same virtual space. Think of the person in the video square next to yours as your virtual bus seatmate. Friendships forged at GardenComm events can last a lifetime.

#2 - Keep your network up to date. Even though we aren’t meeting in person, staying in touch with representatives from the trades, media, and other garden communicators is vital to staying on top of what’s happening in our growing world. The time and money you spend this year just might germinate into ideas, connections, and motivators that will move your work as a garden communicator forward.

#1- Be Inspired. You never know where or when you might get your next big story idea. Maybe it will be when you meet a star-studded cast of new-to-the-market plants? (Because, let’s face it, you love your garden, but you may be getting a little tired of staring at it after so many weeks of sheltering at home.) Attending educational sessions, joining in chat, learning about new varieties, and regional meeting updates, all have the potential to inspire content ideas that sell.

Join us August 10 – 13 from 3-5p ET Daily plus a newly added Happy Hour from 5-6p ET on Monday. Interested in attending #GardenCommVirtual but not available Aug 10-13? Good news! All registrants will be able to access recordings of the sessions for up to 90 days after the conference.

Thank you to our virtual conference sponsors: All America Selections, Bloomables, Bloomin Easy, Botanical Interests, DRAMM, Iseli Nursery, National Garden Bureau and Proven Winners. To learn more about sponsorship, email us.

#Garden365 Calendar of Promotions Now Available
It’s not just any day. It’s a great day to promote Gardening! In an effort to inspire and support national ‘day of, week of and month of’ celebrations, National Garden Bureau has worked in partnership with GardenComm to create and launch a new web page listing many popular dates. These are fantastic opportunities for garden communicators to promote gardening. The current list is the “best of the best”; there is something that will appeal to just about everyone regardless of age or their level of gardening experience. Use this list to plan for your speaking, blogs, videos, content calendars and social media posts to educate, have fun and inspire gardeners to get out and get their hands in the dirt. In many cases, suggested hashtags are included so feel free to use those to raise the tide of gardening.

How horticulture has responded to COVID-19 with strong leadership
    Greenhouse Grower
If there’s one thing the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us, it’s that strong leadership is one of the most important factors that can keep a business moving forward in the face of such a severe market disruption. That’s true for every industry, but it’s especially true for horticulture, as growers going into their busiest time of year were suddenly challenged with not knowing if their customers were still taking orders (or if they were even open), and with figuring out how to maintain the safety of their workforce while keeping them socially distanced in a controlled environment.

Many beloved garden flowers originated in this mountain hot spot — the oldest of its kind on Earth
    Science
The Hengduan Mountains adjoining Asia’s massive Tibetan Plateau are a place of superlatives. Four major rivers, including the Mekong and the Yangtze, flow through deep valleys. In winter, snow blankets the peaks, and in summer fierce monsoon rains pelt them. And one of the world’s richest alpine plant communities, boasting more than 3000 species, cloaks the slopes.

    JOURNALISM

Yes, fake news is a problem. But there's a real news problem, too.
    New York Times
What do you call it when a hedge fund buys a local newspaper and squeezes it for revenue, laying off editors and reporters and selling off the paper’s downtown headquarters for conversion into luxury condos or a boutique hotel? The devastation has become common enough that some observers have resorted to shorthand for what collectively amounts to an extinction-level event.

Local journalism is on its knees — endangering democracy. Who will save it?
    The Guardian
One of the worst affected industries during the coronavirus outbreak has been, ironically, a profession that should have been reporting on it.Scores of newspapers have laid off staff, or closed entirely, in the past four months, in what one expert has predicted will be an “extinction-level” event for the industry. The more recent cuts come to an industry which has long been in decline, robbing large swathes of the US of news coverage, and it’s the state of journalism.

    Forbes
The Covid-19 pandemic has rapidly expedited digital transformation across all industries.
