Funding for worker training announced
The Obama administration announced a second $500 million round of training-to-career funding would be made available to U.S. community colleges this year. Vice President Joe Biden, his wife, Dr. Jill Biden and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis announced the new round of funding at Davidson County Community College in Thomasville, N.C. The first round of $500 million in grant awards through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program was announced in September.More

Obama to promote job training at community colleges

President Barack Obama wants community colleges and businesses to work together to train 2 million workers in high-growth industries, and recently requested $8 billion to create a fund to encourage the effort. Obama's plan is called the "Community College to Career Fund," the White House said. It would seek to train workers within areas such as health care, transportation and advanced manufacturing and would be administered by the Education and Labor departments.More
