The first Early Earthquake Warning System of the National Capital Region was installed on the premises of Haryana Institute of Public Administration in Sector 18 in Gurgaon, India.
The system was inaugurated by Harayan Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu in the presence of the several senior officials of HIPA, Bihar Disaster Management Authority, National Disaster Response Force and National Institute of Disaster Management.

China dismissed three officials because of their "inadequate response" when the deadly Typhoon Nepartak struck the country, Chinese state media reported.
Even though Typhoon Nepartak had weakened to a tropical storm when it hit eastern Fujian province last week, at least 83 people were reported dead while 19 others went missing. Furthermore, thousands of Chinese citizens were also left homeless, and the typhoon caused economic losses amounting to more than $1.06 billion, according to Xinhua.

The IAEM-USA Awards & Recognition Committee is seeking nominations for three (3) new USA-only award categories that will recognize the contributions of volunteers who assist emergency managers in the United States. The new award categories include: Emergency Management Volunteer of the Year, Emergency Management Volunteer Organization of the Year, and Emergency Management Uniformed Services Auxiliary Member of the Year. The nominations period began on July 15, 2016, and will end on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, 5:00 p.m. EDT. There will be no deadline extensions. No self-nominations are accepted in these award categories. Nominations must be submitted using the official nominations form by email to Karen Thompson, Thompson@iaem.com, with any additional letters of support included with the official nominations form. The Department of Homeland Security on July 18 announced funding for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 Homeland Security National Training Program (HSNTP) Continuing Training Grants (CTG). This program provides funding via cooperative agreements to partners to develop and deliver training to prepare communities to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recovery from acts of terrorism and natural, man-made, and technological hazards. For FY 2016, the total amount of HSNTP funds available for CTG is $11,521,000 in four focus areas: cybersecurity, economic recovery, hazardous materials, and rural preparedness. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will a webinar on the 2016 Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) grant program on Monday, July 25, at 2:00-3:00 p.m. EDT. For the first time, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will be eligible for DHS funding in order to promote community resilience against the threat of violent extremism. The scheduled webinar will provide assistance to NGOs and higher education institutions in understanding the grant program’s goals. Register for the July 25 webinar prior to the start of the session.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Emergency Management Incident Virtual Tabletop Exercise, set for Aug. 23-25, 2016, 12:00-4:00 p.m. will address mass casualty incident awareness and information sharing during response efforts to assist affected communities. Virtual Tabletop Exercises are offered at 10-15 participating locations. They are designed for a community-based group of 10 or more whole community representatives from your local emergency management community of practice. Chief of the District Police Office, DSP Dal Bahadur Bogati, said the families from Rajali, Badimalika Municipality-4 of the district were forced to leave the village as the landslide slipped into the center of their settlement.

A report issued by the Wisconsin Emergency Operation’s Center said flooding from last week’s torrential rainfall in northern Wisconsin caused an estimated $30 million in damages, with more reports coming in.
The report said damage to road, bridges, trails and other public properties totaled nearly $29 million, with an additional $1.8 million in damage reported to homes and businesses.
