EPA to hold a webinar on virtual reality for CBR response today, Nov. 12
IAEM
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Center for Environmental Solution and Emergency Response has scheduled a webinar, “Virtual Reality: A Training Tool for Biological Sampling,” on Nov. 12, 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST. EPA researchers, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and the City of Raleigh Fire Department, developed a cost-effective training simulator capable of generating lifelike visuals using commercial off-the-shelf software and hardware to produce a “perfect practice” environment for improving training effectiveness and enhancing situational awareness prior to entering a contaminated environment. The training platform reduces the burden associated with planning and conducting full-scale disaster exercises by creating an immersive and interactive experience, while serving as a more in-depth tool for training emergency officials on the use of biological surface sampling methods and their associated procedures. NWS to hold Dec. 2 partner briefing on new webpage for access to NEXRAD radar
IAEM
The National Weather Service (NWS) will hold a briefing on Dec. 2, 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST, aimed at partners who would like to learn more about the new webpage for access to NEXRAD radar data from the NWS. The new radar.weather.gov webpage (currently on a preview webpage) will replace the current page on or about Dec. 15. Through Dec. 14, the new webpage will run in parallel with the current one, in order to allow users the necessary time to transition local bookmarks to the new interactive radar webpage. The page was redesigned to improve NWS radar services to the public and NWS partners. The new webpage will deliver the nation’s NEXRAD network in a more flexible geographic information system (GIS) format for easy integration into GIS applications used for situational awareness. It also will provide radar images more frequently and at a four-times-higher resolution than currently provided. The webinar briefing will include: an overview of the new NEXRAD radar webpage; a demonstration of the new radar webpage; and open discussion among all participants. Register online.
