Improving wildfires evacuation planning
Homeland Security News Wire
As global temperatures continue to rise, cities and towns not historically prone to large wildfires may begin to face greater threats. An unsuspecting Tennessee community found itself in this position during the 2016 Chimney Tops 2 Fire, which led to 14 deaths and nearly 200 injuries — many related to last-minute evacuations. A new NIST study could help communities, especially those without robust wildfire response plans in place, devise and improve strategies for getting people to head for safer ground.

FEMA releases new COVID-19 resource tools
IAEM
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created two new resource tools for COVID-19 pandemic recovery. The COVID-19 Resource Summary Report compiles available resources provided by federal departments and agencies, as well as information on what federal funding sources can be applied to specific areas for COVID-19 recovery. The report addresses potential overlap with FEMA Public Assistance. The COVID-19 Resource Roadmaps provides a deep-dive into specific topic areas and challenges associated with COVID-19 recovery. Roadmaps offer potential solutions and federal resources that could support recovery activities. To date, FEMA has published "COVID-19 Education Resource Roadmap," and "COVID-19 Food and Nutrition." FEMA will provide additional roadmaps for Healthcare, Housing and Economic Development by the end of September. Roadmaps use information that is either publicly available or publicly obtained, and should be used only for informational purposes. These resource tools were created by FEMA’s Recovery Support Function Leadership Group, and more information is available online.

Invitation to participate in survey about your experiences with FirstNet
IAEM

In an article published in the August 2020 IAEM Bulletin, author Michael Prasad, CEM, described his experiences with FirstNet and invited emergency managers to take a survey about their experiences. He is interested in learning if his experience with FirstNet (so far) is unique or if it’s similar to the experiences of other emergency managers. It’s a short (five indicative, 5 demographic questions) online survey, and Prasad would greatly appreciate your participation, particularly those of you who are new to using FirstNet or if you are currently using FirstNet in some capacity, even if just exploratory/experimental. He is not affiliated with, nor does he represent, IAEM, AT&T, or the FirstNet Authority. He hopes to share the results in a future issue of the IAEM Bulletin. Take the survey here.
