It's National Volunteer Week! Thanks to all of our members who are active in IAFN. From holding an office in your local IAFN Chapter to sitting on our committees or serving on our Board of Directors, the editorial board of the Journal of Forensic Nursing, the IAFN Foundation, or on the Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification, volunteers are the backbone of our organization. By giving of yourself and your time, you make our organization stronger. We appreciate you!
Thanks to all who joined IAFN on April 16 & 17 for this year’s Leadership and Lobby Days. After a day of leadership training, forensic nurses from 17 states and Ontario, Canada took to Capitol Hill to talk with legislators and their staff about the issues important to forensic nurses and the patients for whom we care.

- Have you developed a new forensic nursing project?
- Do you have research in progress?
- Do you want to share your ideas with colleagues?
Poster sessions allow presenters to network with peers one-on-one, exchanging ideas and learning from one another outside the traditional conference sessions. We also encourage students at all levels (BSN/MSN/DNP/PhD) to submit poster presentations. This is a great way to share your ideas, present early stage doctoral work, and get feedback from scholars and clinicians.
Submissions are due May 7, 2018
IAFN is once again collaborating with the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) to offer a $10,000 research grant to a forensic nurse researcher. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the International Association of Forensic Nurses. The focus of this grant is restricted to research focused on forensic nursing science.
This award is part of the 2018 Nursing Research Grants which offers nursing research awards to beginner and experienced nurse researchers. Information about all of the awards is available here.
The online application is available now. All applications must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on May 1.

Having twice before run into an 11-year-old named Sarah in the neighborhood, the 28-year-old man chatted amiably with her and said he had something to show her at an apartment building nearby.

A Bangladeshi High Court banned the derogatory “two-finger test” on rape victims, saying it has no scientific and legal merit. Issuing the order to settle a five-year-old petition, the court also ruled that lawyers cannot ask any question to rape victims that could hurt their dignity during the trial proceedings, a spokesman of the attorney general’s office said.
