Stanford University became the most prominent college yet to announce that it will use a reporting system called Callisto to combat sexual assault on campus.
Callisto, which launched in 2015, quickly set itself apart from the host of other apps and companies cropping up to cater to colleges on this issue. As Tyler Kingkade wrote at the Huffington Post, that might have a lot to do with the extensive feedback the platform’s designers, at the nonprofit Sexual Health Innovations, solicited from survivors of campus sexual assault to figure out which features would actually be salutary.

Look at the number of reported sexual assaults in the U.S. military over the last decade, and you’d likely be alarmed at the trend line. In 2016, as in many of the previous 10 years, the total number of reports increased — most recently to 6,172, up from 6,083 the year before. But that’s because more service members are reporting unwanted sexual contact, not experiencing it, according to the Pentagon’s latest Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military.

States during the 10-year aggregate period from
2006 to 2015. Police were notified of more than half (56%)
of these victimizations
. When police responded
to the scene, they took a report 78% of the time. The victim

against the offender in about half (48%) of victimizations
reported to police.

Associations Now
Through a collaboration with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) is seeking to set a new emergency call framework to provide better service to the public.
The two groups are creating new standards that will transition all associated countries to a new setup, “Next Generation 9-1-1,” which will allow callers to provide more information to emergency call centers and will create more efficient communication between centers.

OVW
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is a component of the United States Department
of Justice (DOJ). Created in 1995, OVW implements the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
and subsequent legislation and provides national leadership on issues of sexual assault,
domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Since its inception, OVW has supported a
multifaceted approach to responding to these crimes through implementation of grant programs
authorized by VAWA.

Police forces are allowing perpetrators of domestic violence to escape justice by “pushing responsibility” for prosecutions on to victims, rather than building cases themselves, the police watchdog has warned. Officers need to “get on with their jobs” and track down evidence so they can pursue cases against offenders without relying on vulnerable victims to provide testimony, according to Zoe Billingham, who leads on domestic violence for Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).
