Recently, the Department of Defense released its Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015.
Overall, sexual assault reporting remained consistent with the high levels seen in recent years. The department received a total of 6,083 reports of sexual assault for allegations involving service members. In addition, climate survey results indicate that over 16,000 service members intervened in situations they believed to be at risk for sexual assault.

The number of forcible sex crimes reported on U.S. college and university campuses more than doubled to 5,000 between 2001 and 2013, likely due in part to more diligent reporting of such offenses both by victims and by institutions.
Reports of sex crimes increased by nearly 1,000 from 2012 to 2013 alone, according to a new report by the National Center for Education Statistics, the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the American Institutes for Research, a nonprofit social sciences research group.

Beginning in 2013, the United States Preventive Screening Taskforce recommends that all women of childbearing age should receive annual screening for intimate partner violence. Barriers for screening include lack of time during the visit, lack of knowledge and lack of confidence when addressing IPV intervention.
To overcome these barriers, providers should familiarize themselves with screening tools such as RADAR developed by the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale will audit a backlog of more than 1,800 unprocessed sexual assault kits reported to the Department of Health.
"This report is an important step forward in Pennsylvania's efforts to bring more transparency and awareness to serious issues like sexual assault," said Health Department spokesman Wes Culp, whose agency published the data. He said the report will help "ensure that those kits are tested in a timely manner."

More than 140,000 untested rape evidence kits are collecting dust in crime labs throughout the country – denying justice for rape survivors waiting for the results and allowing rapists to commit more sexual assaults.
Virginia has joined a handful of states that have taken legislative action to end the backlog by adopting a law to ensure that the commonwealth’s untested kits will be processed quickly beginning July 1.

The home ministry has asked the Law Commission to deliberate on the issue of criminalising marital rape, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.
"The ministry of home has requested the Law Commission to deliberate upon the subject of marital rape during the course of its comprehensive review of the criminal justice system," women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi said in a written reply.
