Every year, hundreds of adults are sexually assaulted in Las Vegas, but if they want to gather evidence to put their abuser in jail there are few resources for them.
A special nurse known as a "sexual assault nurse examiner" or "SANE nurse" is needed to perform rape kits on victims of sexual assault.

Crime is down in Detroit, but the homicide rate in the city is still high. For all the talk about Chicago's murder rate, Detroit's per capita rate is higher.
One of the newest efforts to deal with the violence is an intervention initiative called D-LIVE, which stands for "Detroit Life Is Valuable Everyday." The program treats violent crime as a health care issue and goes into the hospital to talk to gunshot victims.

The new executive director of Alaska’s Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault stepped into her new position and a new office space simultaneously on May 1. L. Diane Casto is still settling into the council’s new digs on Third Street, although she represented the council even before her official start date, at the Juneau Take Back the Night event in April.

Office of Justice Programs
The purpose of this program is to enhance the capacity of applicant organizations to respond to the needs of child victims of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE)/domestic sex trafficking (DST). Under this initiative, OJJDP expects successful applicants to develop or enhance mentoring service models and mentor training based on best practices to focus on the needs of youth who are at risk or are victims of CSE/DST; develop or update strategies to recruit and maintain mentors to serve underidentified and underserved populations; begin or enhance efforts to identify and enroll youth who are in need of services; and provide needed services to these youth.

of Justice (DOJ). Created in 1995, OVW implements the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
and subsequent legislation and provides national leadership on issues of sexual assault,

Before last week there was only a handful of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (S.A.N.E. Nurse) for the whole Upper Peninsula. Now there are more than 20 after extensive training at Northern Michigan University last week.
"Right now if a patient has been sexually assaulted, reporting to an emergency room can be a frightful experience especially not having someone trained in this specialty," said Renae Diegel, a registered nurse and administrator of Clinical Forensic Nursing Services.
