One boy, 8 or 9 years old, said he did it several times to the same soldier, “until one day an older kid saw him and told him what he was doing was bad.”

A seven-year-old Labrador retriever made B.C. courtroom history on Friday after assisting a child sexual assault victim testify at trial, becoming the first dog to be allowed in a courtroom in the province.
The girl, whose name can't be released, was able to cuddle and play with Caber, a trauma dog with the Delta Police Department, during breaks in the trial.

Iowa State University has been awarded a five-year, up to $20 million grant to establish a Forensic Science Center of Excellence.
The grant, awarded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), pends approval by the Iowa Board of Regents. If approved, it will be the third NIST Center of Excellence and the only one focused on forensic sciences.

NIST's guide, Biological Evidence Preservation: Considerations for Policy Makers, encourages legislators, judges, law enforcement officials, crime laboratory managers and other policy makers to implement or update laws that support best practices in this critical area.

Both houses of Congress are moving to guarantee greater access to contraceptives for women in the military, actions that lawmakers say are prompted in part by concern about unplanned pregnancies in the armed forces.
The annual defense policy bill, passed on Friday by the House, says military clinics and hospitals must be able to dispense any method of contraception approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Women have complained that they are sometimes unable to obtain contraceptives prescribed by their doctors, especially when they are deployed overseas.

The General Lew Wallace Museum and Study in Crawfordsville is hosting the lecture as part of its Civil War series. Indianapolis Marion County Forensic Services Agency Investigator Douglas Boxler conducted the research using modern forensic tools.
Museum Visitor Services manager Stephanie Cain said the intent is to answer some of the questions surrounding Lincoln’s death.
