July 30 marked the United Nations’ World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a day focused on ending the criminal exploitation of children, women and men for forced labor or sex work.
Between 27 and 45.8 million individuals worldwide are trapped in some form of modern-day slavery. The victims are forced into slavery as sex workers, beggars and child soldiers, or as domestic workers, factory workers and laborers in manufacturing, construction, mining, commercial fishing and other industries.

The DBH serves as the primary source of national advocacy, policy development, management and administration of behavioral health, alcohol and substance abuse, and family violence prevention programs. In 2015, DBH funded 57 Tribes, Tribal organizations, Urban Indian Organization (UIOs), and IHS federal facilities that participate in a nationally coordinated project to expand outreach and increase awareness of domestic and sexual violence and provide victim advocacy, intervention, case coordination, policy development, community response teams, and community and school education programs.

It has been more than a year since Henry Ford Allegiance Health began its program to examine sexual assault victims for collection of possible forensic evidence.
Last year, specially trained nurses saw 43 patients. As of this month, there had been 26 in 2017, reported Gillian Jobson, director of nursing and patient care services, critical and emergency care. The hospital was expecting 50 to 60 patients a year.
