Among the many reasons that the sexual exploitation cases in places such as Rochdale and Rotherham took so long to be recognised, investigated and eventually prosecuted was that many of the victims felt unable to report to the police what had happened to them or, in a number of cases, first appeared on the police radar because they themselves were committing offences. Some of the victims, mainly very vulnerable and abused girls and women, committed theft, public order offences and sometimes much worse.

Georgia’s largest public hospital improperly charged more than 730 rape victims for forensic exams, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation has found.
Under state law, Grady Memorial Hospital is supposed to provide rape exams free to victims and send the bills to a special state fund — billing them is considered as unfair as a shooting victim paying police to dust the weapon for fingerprints.

I last wore a bikini nearly 25 years ago when I was eight months pregnant. That summer it was brutally hot, and the stucco bungalow we were renting in Los Angeles didn’t have air conditioning.
