A recent study published in one of the premiere journals from the American Medical Association indicates that 6.5 percent of women in the United States experience their first sexual intercourse through physical force or coercion.
Using a population-based sample of over 13,000 American women between the ages of 18 and 44, and appropriate statistical weighting, researchers say this means that more than 3.3 million reproductive-age women nationwide experienced forced intercourse as their sexual initiation. That number is jaw-dropping.

The forensic nursing community has long known that the lack of expert Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) throughout the country has been a major barrier regarding attempts to increase the number of SANEs. Many nurses complete the didactic SANE course, but then find it difficult to identify an expert SANE in their clinical area who can then mentor them through their first exams with a patient who has been sexually assaulted. The mentor would then be available to them to answer their questions as they begin to accumulate their required hours and expertise in order to sit for the certification exam. For those nurses who do not have a SANE mentor where they work, there are clinical courses that are sometimes offered at a site where the nurse can attend a 2-3 day hands on experience in order to learn how to conduct an exam.

After getting in a fight with her mother, a 13-year-old girl went to Memorial Park to walk around. That's where she met a 15-year-old who invited her back to his house for some food.
Once there, he told her that he was in a gang. When she asked to be taken home, he said that would have to wait until "after sex." That’s when he allegedly held her down and raped her.
Ten years later, on June 12 of this year, the San Diego Police Department's crime lab tested the rape kit from the incident.

The immunizations led to "mostly sterilizing immunity" — the strongest type of immunity — from the virus.
As reported in Science Immunology, researchers delivered the vaccine to 64 mice and then exposed them to genital herpes. After 28 days, they found 63 of the mice had sterilizing immunity, meaning there was no trace of herpes infection or disease after the exposure. The one remaining mouse developed dormant infection without any prior genital disease.

The mystery started with dead, mutilated cats left on front porches and lawns or in schoolyards in Edmonton and nearby St. Albert. Some of the bodies trailed intestines, as if they had been posed. Others had been severed in two and were missing one half or the other. The corpses had scalpel-like cuts.
At first, it was a cluster of 34 dead cats in 2007. But in 2016, the total for the two Alberta cities reached 53. Most showed up in the weeks surrounding the start of the school year.
