The American Nurses Foundation is the charitable and philanthropic arm of ANA, supporting ANA and its work to promote the welfare and well being of nurses and advance the nursing profession, thereby enhancing the health of the public. Their Research Grants Program was founded 56 years ago to encourage the research career development of nurses. This program continues to grow with contributions from organizations like the IAFN to support forensic nursing research.
This year's winners split the $3500 award and were recognized at the IAFN's 20th Annual Scientific Assembly.

Maryland state and local officials and representatives of law enforcement and domestic violence victims' groups gathered recently to announce that all 30 local law enforcement agencies in Prince George's County will adopt use of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence's Lethality Assessment Program. LAP is a screening instrument used at the scene to identify victims of intimate partner domestic violence who are at the greatest risk of being killed. Law enforcement officers immediately connect those individuals to local domestic violence programs and services.
